Conan's compilation of "Williamsisms" the other night was hilarious. Brian Williams left himself open to such ridicule being he fabricated an entire story about his "service" in Iraq, 2003. Stars and Stripes has essentially refuted every aspect of Williams' story aside from the fact that Williams was, indeed, in Iraq in 2003. But Stars and Stripes went further and showed how Williams wasn't forthcoming in his apology following his lie, either.
Williams has been #1 in network news ratings since he took the job as chief news reader at NBC. And he fashioned himself a hero, a man willing to risk death itself to get me the news I needed to know. And the news I have needed to know is very often just how great the news media, with Williams in the King's Chair, really is. I'm tired of media heroes. Just give me facts, and facts which particularly go against your own personal biases, and there is little else I can ask for.
In the case of Williams lying about events in Iraq to burnish his credentials a few facts seem to remain knowable, but as yet are unknown. Williams had a "crew" with him in Iraq. They were in the Chinook with him. They must have a recollection of events too. Wouldn't the easiest thing on earth to do regarding this case, right now, be to just produce his crew for questioning? They will either support his claims, or reject them. Simple. And ask yourself a very simple question at this point...If this lie had been told by, say, a Republican Congressman, do you think he or she would be given so much deference as is Williams (at this point), or even as Hillary was given after her absolutely heroic defiance in the face of sniper fire in the Balkans?
At some point any fair-minded person would have to admit that most of our media is sharply biased, not to mention deeply insular and often cooperatively defensive. Anyone remember Dan Rather lying about Mr. Bush in an effort to politically harm him? I do.
And, as I will disclaim frequently from now on...To my leftist friends, this is not about Mr. Obama. Mr. Obama sucks for a plethora of reasons, but this isn't one of them. In a real sense though, and think this through if you like, a major reason Mr. Obama does in fact suck so badly is because the MSM could find so little they wanted to challenge him on. They abided his self-proclaimed laziness, and he is in part a product of this journo-political circle jerk.
